[Sketch 34 - Art Barf]

So I haven't disappeared or given up yet. Works in Progress and sketches for fun. More to come. Heading North for some R&R soon. Recharge. Go.

"Sometimes late at night
While runnin' from the rain
Running from the voices
Filling up my brain
Now I wish they'd leave me alone
And let me be
To go off on my own
Let me be to go home
I feel like going home." - Yo La Tengo (I Feel Like Going Home)

[Sketch #33 - Some Uncharacteristic Fanart]

Not much to say this time around, except HOLY CRAP, some fan art! Been busy writing mostly, but discovered it can be very fun to sketch with prisma col-erase and then try and get your drawings to SHOW UP IN PHOTOSHOP. So this looks much differently than it does in person. I find that kind of fun. Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase from the Heroes of Olympus/Olympians series. I didn't even really intend to draw these two. I started with a different pose and two of my own characters and decided (after placing that silly looking face on Annabeth) that I had to change it. So walla. I've been looking at Burdge-Bug's art quite a bit. Love her drawing style and she definitely sketches these two a lot.

I hope Percabeth gets a happy reunion soon. :<

More to come.

"So high tonight and I don’t feel like coming down
I can lie to you all my days, But you’re the one, you’re the one
And I’m a fool for waiting so long to let you know." -Rosi Golan (Come Around)

[Sketch #32 - GEORGIA!]

It will be a year in AUGUST! Holy Hell. The time does fly... and yet it didn't feel fully official until my parents signed over the title to Skids and I fitted him with Georgia tags. Now, I'm totally ligit when I shake my fist at the tourists who stop in the middle of the street to snap pictures of horse drawn carriages and "haunted" hotels. Bastards. :D

In celebration, SOME MORE GEORGIA NON-NATIVES/NOMADS!

It has been so, so, so long since I have drawn something as quick as I did this picture (which is still, sad to say, incredibly slow) and been thrilled with it despite its many flaws. I know Ryan's torso is too short and Clarity's face is a little lopsided... but this has been the most fun drawing I've had in freakin' months. And you've got to admit, they're ADORABLE! :3 Left to right, Jacqueline, Clarity, and Ryan. The three amigas who fight the things that go bump in the night down in the dirty south. LoVE.

And one more Georgia girl for good measure...

Smile. Because you know you're not going to see anything cuter than this face today.

"And if you feel just like a tourist in the city you were born
Then it's time to go
And define your destination
There's so many different places to call home
Because when you find yourself the villain in the story you have written
It's plain to see
That sometimes the best intentions are in need of redemption
Would you agree?
If so please show me." -Death Cab for Cutie (You Are a Tourist)

[Sketch #31 - Rabbit Heart]

Bought some rag paper to experiment on. This was the first result (from several weeks ago... :/). Partial print transfer, Caran D'ache technalo graphite, F.W. Acrylic Ink, and Acryla Gouache. A lot of stuff for something pretty simple. But I like it. Sometimes its good just to throw some paint around. I'll probably do some more this weekend, I've been hoarding paper from work. Got sooo much now. :D;;

Three days off after a rough week sounds good to me. Can't wait to visit my friends in Ohio in two weeks. Life is alright. Oh, and something else in the works:

Possibly the permanent works. Soon.

More to come.

"I went down among the dust and pollen
To the old stone fountain in the morning after dawn
Underneath were all these pennies
Fallen from the hands of children
They were there and then were gone
And I wonder what became of them
What became of them?" - Fleet Foxes (The Shrine/An Argument)

[Sketch #30 - Sticker Stuff]

So, another post after far too long! A short one too, because I have work tomorrow! WOO! Two more stickers for the line of animal skulls I'm doing. Coyote and Jackrabbit. Rabbit skulls look very, very weird, but kind of awesome. I'm happy with how things are going. And I managed to get these done in a timely manner for once. Trying to decide on the next two critters, also writing and working on Devour Them, so hopefully more soon. Is it bad that I'm too lazy to scan things lately? Probably so...

More to come.

"I was carried to Ohio on a swarm of bees
I'll never marry, but Ohio don't remember me
I still owe money, to the money, to the money I owe
I never thought about love when I thought about home
I still owe money, to the money, to the money I owe
The floors are falling out from everybody I know
I'm on a bloodbuzz
Yes I am, I'm on a bloodbuzz
I'm on a bloodbuzz
God I am, I'm on a bloodbuzz." -The National (Bloodbuzz Ohio)

[Sketch #29 - Work]

Been a while since I've updated after being on such a role there.. damn. Lots going on, still working lots, but I had a few visits from friends and family in the past two months. Rightly so, I've fallen down on the job of internet updates. Here's a little tidbit for now. A business card design I'm working on for myself.

Hopefully I'll post more stuff later this weekend. Ta ta, for now!

"Now there's no holding back, I'm making to attack
My blood is singing with your voice, I want to pour it out
The Saints can't help me now, the ropes have been unbound
The hunt for you with bloodied feet across the hallowed ground."
-Florence & the Machine (Howl)

[Sketch #28 - Hades Progress, Poseidon FInished]

This piece was first started nearly a year ago. It has taken me nearly as long to complete as the first piece I did, which I now realize I never posted the finished painting. I'm bad at starting too many things and finishing none of them. This is the progress I've made on Hades. For those who don't remember I, forever and ever ago, wanted to do a series of paintings featuring the Greek Gods as gender opposites. So, you get Hades and Poseidon as women. Soon to come (hopefully), Zeus. This was also, originally, going to be a gift. Unfortunately times change. I really love this piece for everything it is and everything it still represents to me. Its taken me so long, because there is a lot tied to it in my memory. The things that were happening in my life when I started this painting were not easy. But I have learned a lot since then, been given time to figure things out and finally lay to rest some of my mistakes and remember only the things worth remembering. Love and friendships, though they come and go should be cherished for the good things they brought you. You may wish things had gone differently, you may regret your actions or the actions of others, but in the end, none of that matters. You can only take ownership for you own actions and go from there.

I'm rambling.

It's not finished yet, but I will finish it soon. There's something its missing, I just need to figure out what that is. Still working on skulls n things.

More to come.

"Well someone said I made a mistake
Kept looking forward on paths sideways
It's everything that is connected and beautiful
And now I know just where i stand
Seasons always shift too late
Spent too much time now on paths sideways
Everything that is connected and beautiful
And now I know just where i stand
Thank god it's over..." -Silversun Pickups (Kissing Families)

[Sketch #27 - Form and Functionality]

So, a little taste of the things I've been working on. Did little thumbnails for these two earlier this week, finally sat down and cranked them out today. Pen and ink on hot press 140# Arches, I might do some watercolor washes over top of them. Working on a series of these. I won't say any more than that to hopefully avoid jinxing it. I tend to plan to work on things, say I will, then not do it. But I'm officially destitute ^^! If there's a way to make money doing drawing, especially, I'll take it!

Animal skulls are so interesting. Can anyone guess what these two are of? The bottom one is fairly obvious, but the first one is, I hope, a little more obscure. My day off is quickly coming to a close, but there is more work to do. And so far, it's fun.

More to come.

"You tried to trick me,
You've gotta lot of nerve."
"I'm not trying to trick you,
I'm -trust me- I'm -trust me- I'm trying to help." -Aesop Rock (chorus from "None Shall Pass")

[Sketch #26 - Horse and I]

I initially started this drawing for two reasons. 1. I was inspired by a Bat for Lashes song titled "Horse and I" and 2. I miss Wonder. A few months ago I gave up my Buscha to a good home because I was no longer around to give him the love and affection he needed and because he was simply too costly to keep. I got impatient and posted it early, though I am currently noodling in a background. I thought this post would be about horses, my experiences with them and what not, but I've changed tracks in my head again. Now, I'm focused on the fact that I'm poor, so soon, you should see my art reflecting that I need to make money, quickly and by any means necessary. Of course, this will be anything and everything short of prostitution and kidnapping.

Mostly I mean I am designing logos, stickers, and buttons in the hopes I can pay off some debt. And currently I'm feeling inspired, listening to poor Irishmen sing about how they don't give a fock.

So, more to come!

"The smell of redwood giants
A banquet for the shadows
Horse and I, we're dancers in the dark." -Bat for Lashes (Horse and I)

[Sketch #25 - Heron]

So, I bought some Aquaboards by Ampersand some time ago, and did a little test painting on one of them. This was like, a day project, so its not the best thing I ever painted...

Great Blue Herons are all over the place down here, along with snowy egrets and a huge assortment of other large birdies. I might paint more in the future, senor Audubon style, but probably not. I'm actually drawn to this bird because its become the mascot for Devour Them. Herons. Interesting birds. Yay for watercolor!

I finished rendering Brock Sampson today. Maybe Dr. Venture next. More to come.

"In matters of the heart
One must try to fill it up
With love and grace you'll start a fire
Immerse old wounds and douse them out
Pick your heart up off the floor
Hold it gently now and go
To the place you were meant to know." -Spinnerette (Baptized by Fire)

[Sketch #24 - 21]

[edit-fixed some things color-wise]

BEHOLD, THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME!! So because I have spent the past two weeks reliving Seasons 1-4 of the Venture Brothers, I've decided to work on some little character stickers in Illustrator. I've been sketching everyone while watching and then scanning my little drawings in to work over them. It is... quite satisfying. I think I'm going to do this for a few other shows as well. Focus on VB for now though. First up, 21 and Dr. Girlfriend.

It's been a while since I've actually tried to illustrate something in Illustrator. Hopefully I'll remember more of the program as I go along. More to come~

"Sickness was fixing me some
Coughed out my heart in the last stall
Now that the damage is done
I never miss it at all." -Metric (Empty)

[Sketch #23 - Fort Pulaski]

Today I went out to Fort Pulaski for the first time. It was a really beautiful day, and a bit warmer than it has been. Also, this weekend was free due to MLK Jr. Day, which was an awesome incentive for me to finally go check out this piece of architectural history. Without a doubt, this fort is going to pop up in Devour Them. It was an awesome experience to be able to walk the grounds, the tunnels outside them and the miles of hiking trails. Next time I go I'll have to take more pictures for reference and I'm totally bringing Maggie. The whole damn place is dog friendly!

I took more pictures of course, but none of them really did justice. Got some interesting landscape shots though, and some cool photos of driftwood on the edge of the marsh by the sea. Damn, this place is beautiful.

Might make some prints of the last one. We'll see. More to come.

winter, love snows
crown, crown, crown your mountains
winter, love holds"-Mariee Sioux (Wizzard Flurry Home)

[Sketch #22 - Fun with Copics and Triplus Fine Liners]

I keep buying art supplies... and I need to use them. So lately I've decided to do a bit of sketching with a quick inking (using fineliners in a variety of colors), and some selective coloring. So far, it's a lot of fun. ^^

Two postings in a single day... I'm sure the momentum will fall short somewhere, but its not now. And now is good.

More to come!

"I'm just a vagabond with flowers for Algernon
The Average Joe who knows what the fuck is goin on
It's the hope of my thoughts that I traveled upon
Fly like an arrow of God until I'm gone."- Nujabes feat. Cise Starr & Akin from Cyne (Feather)

[Sketch #21 - The Fire]

Before I write anything else, I'd like to point out I forgot to credit the really beautiful music in this to Imogen Heap.

I just found this on my computer while going through some stuff this morning and thought it would be fun to post. Different for me at least. This video was actually done last summer after my brother recommended that I play around with iMovie since i had it on my computer. Its pretty crappy... some scenes were cut poorly, and the whole thing was filmed on my ancient little cannon powershot. I like it anyway. I'll probably experiment with film more in the future.

More art stuff today, so more posts soon, I've just got to get around to getting it onto my computer. My music playlists consist of nothing but Nujabes, Laura Veirs, and the Silversun Pickups lately. I'm in loooooove with them all.

Also I just finished season five of Dexter... and now I don't know what to watch. :<

"Going soft like the dawn and tender green
Like the shoots of spring unfurling on the lawn
Over dam, over dam, over sea swell, over sea swell
And have her play Devil's pawn.
Cause you know he'd do the same thing.
Yeah you know he'd do the same thing." -Laura Veirs (Life is Good Blues)

[Sketch #20 - Renewal]

No life lessons today, just a simple offering of Chun-Li, one of my brother's favorite street fighter characters. This was a gift I gave him for X-Mas, and seeing how rarely I've been posting what I'm working on, I decided to put it up. Hopefully this year my attempts at resolutions will not fail me, seeing as I really didn't make any. I think new year resolutions are sort of a joke to be honest. There's plenty I want to do this year, and that to me is resolution enough. That being said, I hope everyone I know has had a great holiday season. Time to get back to work~

There's always more to come.

"Clear as ice, oh clear as ice
Dripping down from a rock
Spring will come and so will fall
All my enemies have finally fled
They’ve finally fled and gone." - Laura Veirs (Wind is Blowing Stars)
